You will begin your tour of Venice’s highlights….St. Mark’s, Doges Palace, and the Rialto bridge area. St. Marks square is known for not only its size and beauty, but it contains old word cafes and luxury shops. San Marco Basilica is a combination of Byzantine and western style architecture built from 1063-1073 to shelter the tomb of the Evangelist, Mark. Changes were made during the Renaissance and 17th century but the combination of Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance is truly a masterpiece for its beauty and drama.
Its famous Byzantine Horses sitting on top are magnificent. As you walk to the Rialto bridge along the streets (calle) area you will pass lovely shops and piazzas. The Rialto bridge, half way along the great canal, was built between 1588-1592 and was designed to allow the armed galley to pass under it. Therefore it appears as a hump- backed bridge with a central street lined with shops and gangways on both sides which allow you to see views of the Grand Canal with it famous palaces(palazzi). At the end of your tour your guide will join you for a gondola ride through Venice’s charming calle, pointing out famous sights and palazzi.
